You can tell when it's AI (can't you?)


Perhaps humans have evolved to have such a sophisticated sense of pattern recognition, that we don't even consciously understand the patterns that we're recognizing.

When you read a post, an email, literally anything that's been written with an AI LLM (large language model), you can always tell. You might not even know how you're able to tell, but you can tell.

(EDIT: At least everyone on THIS email list can tell. Recently I learned about a man who was making AI videos of a man with downsydrome being bullied to emotionally manipulate people into buying dropshipped resin Godzilla lamps made in China. Many people failed to recognize that the videos were AI and bought the lamps in support and solidarity with the imaginary character. FFS.)

Sometimes it's obvious. The em-dash abuse, the blatant "it's not just X, it's Y" literary tropes, the robotic staccato. Being violently thrown into the uncanny valley as your brain tries to make sense of how something can be so informative, polished, written in a "technically sound way", and yet still be so fucking empty.

But-- even when a person takes the extra time to make a more sophisticated prompt, puts safeguards against the typical offenders that would make a piece obviously AI, even when they switch up the LLM they're using, there's a part of any attuned person that can feel when something is written with AI.

There are brilliant ways to use AI, especially in your business. You can automate time-sucking tasks, improve communications with your team, and efficiency in your funnel.

Hell, I've been using AI for the last couple of month to program an entire platform software that I'm going to use to replace Skool, Kit (email), Manychat, Calendly, Quickbooks, and more, all in one. It took me and my collaborator two months with no coding experience what would've taken an entire 12-person engineering team working full-time over 18 months to create.

AI is cool AF.

But the biggest misuse of this technology are these two things:

  1. Outsourcing your critical thinking/ideation
  2. Outsourcing your creative output/writing/content

Because newsflash:
These are the only parts of a business/craft/expression where any of your unique essence is actually an asset and differentiator.

They're the parts of your businesss where you exist. Get rid of THAT, and you get rid of the only human thing that other humans have the opportunity to resonate with.

AI models - especially voice and video models - are only going to become more sophisticated and harder to distinguish from reality. Hilariously, there are now AI's that add in spelling and grammar errors into AI generated work emails so that bosses can't catch them using it.

But my suspicion is that no matter how "good" they get, there will always be a perceptible lack of SOUL in anything created with the intention of replacing one's self with AI.

How do I know this?

Because AI content isn't the only soulless content on the internet lol.

People are creating their "own" content based on strategies, frameworks, marketing psychology theories, and performing a version of themselves they think they need in order to get views, get clients, get laid, get paid -- and you can't feel them in that content AT ALL.

I've worked with over 80 coaches' businesses this past year, and it would always drive me crazy trying to figure out why two people could follow the exact same business + content strategy, and one would blow up and make a bunch of money, while the other would flounder and burn out in 3-6 months.

After leaving no stone unturned with offer creation, marketing and sales psychology, content strategy, and ad systems, I realized the actual made a difference on if a person was successful was their self-concept and subconscious beliefs.

If a person doesn't believe in themselves or what they're offering, they'll throw every strategy, monk-mode discipline, calendar timeblocking, deep work focus technique, content scripting and editing method, and it'll all just be to avoid actually facing themselves and sharing who they actually are.

Ultimately, a person who subconsciously wants to hide will never be found by the people they might resonate with, because they actually want to stay hidden.

And that's why you can't feel them in their content, in their offer, in their sales calls... just like you can't feel them in their shitty, dumb AI generated content.

The crazy thing is, I actually think AI generated content CAN have soul in it, it can be true art. I see videos and images being made, and the way that people are creating are skills in themselves.

Technology has always enhanced the artist's ability to create, and the lazy to take shortcuts that ultimately fall flat. I was able to record my first album in my 20's, because tech had advanced to the point where I could record studio quality audio on a mic I plugged into my iPhone. It's not necessarily the technology or the tool - it's the intention and amount of LIFE that you're pouring into it.

So in that sense,

I've shifted basically all of my coaching work to bring more LIFE, heart, and soul into peoples' work.

I still have all my resources, understanding of marketing principles, templates, etc that are useful for teaching people the 101's of business, sales, and advertisement. But that's maybe 5% of what I've seen as most important.

The other 95% that I'm primarily concerned with is getting people into energetic integrity with themselves. With reprogramming the subconscious beliefs they have that are making them disappear in their own life, business, and relationships.

It would always blow my mind when I would get though a 60-90 minute call with someone, and within DAYS, they would have some breakthrough result in their business they'd been grinding and struggling to get for months.

Those are the kinds of results my partner has been getting for the last 5 years running her Consistent Clients workshop.
